WOAD

#4- WOAD, Isatis tinctoria

Woad is most well known as a dye plant. It makes a beautiful blue dye. I used to use woad as a dye, until I found out what a powerful medicine it is. Now I reserve it’s leaves for medicine making. Woad is a biennial that has been used in Chinese medicine for thousands of years. Medicine made form its leaves is referred to as Da qing ye. Medicine made from it’s roots is referred to as Ban lan gen. Woad is thought of as a cooling plant. What I didn’t mention in the video below is that Woad is great for reducing fevers and has been an amazing influenza remedy. This herb can upset the stomach for some, even when dried properly. Use with caution and under the guidance of a trained professional.

Chrysalis Natural Medicine Clinic has references to some research studies done with Woad.

In the video below, there is a part where I talk about folks with Lyme infections being more susceptible to viral infections. I mention EBV, HHV6, and go one to mention Herpes…my mind then wandered to different herpes infections then jumped back to Cytomegalovirus. For the record, Shingles and Chickenpox are not common infections alongside Lyme the way that EBV, HHV6 and Cytomegalovirus are.
On an interesting side note, I know many people with Lyme who have had chicken pox several times. One day I’ll learn to edit videos….
