STEVIA

#29- STEVIA, Stevia rebaudiana

Stevia is a very sweet tasting herb that is native to Brazil. It grows well here in WNC but dies back in the winter. It is a perennial here and will return again in the Spring. It can be grown inside as a houseplant. We nibble on a handful of fresh leaves daily.

Our family utilizes stevia in homemade lemonade, herbal teas, jellos, smoothies, ice creams, pies, chocolate milks, etc. My kids get to have many of our society’s dessert treats, they just get them in the form of stevia sweetened.

Besides its use in Lyme, stevia has been a great ally for diabetics. It has been used in oral health to help prevent tooth decay and gum disease.
