#25- SELF HEAL, Prunella Vulgaris

Self Heal is an amazing little perennial that has so many amazing attributes to it. I like to collect the plant before flowering but many wait to harvest it until it is flowering. I think of it as a mint and I prefer young mint leaves as opposed to flowering ones. However the flowers can add a nice coloring to the tea and pollinators love them! I do not think to tincture Self Heal because it is so abundant in Western North Carolina and is so very tasty and soothing. If one wanted to tincture it, do so with 45% alcohol.  At the first sign of sore throat we gargle with Self Heal tea.
